FORD MADE THE PAINT MOVE. THE OWNER MADE IT EXCLUSIVE.
Mystichrome was already part of Ford performance folklore. Its shifting violet, blue, teal and green had made the 2004 SVT Cobra unforgettable. Years later, California collector Justin Choi persuaded Ford to bring that visual magic to the carbon-fiber body of the modern Ford GT.
This was not simply a familiar catalog color applied to a different car. Contemporary reporting placed the extraordinary paint option near $100,000. More importantly, the specification included Ford’s paint-lockout option, preventing another factory-built Ford GT from being ordered in the same Mystichrome finish. That decision made this car singular by design.
“The car never held one color long enough to be defined by it.”
On November 2, 2019, direct California sunlight did exactly what studio lighting could not. Across a few steps, the Ford GT changed from dark blue to violet, then flashed turquoise and green around its nose, flying buttresses and active rear wing. The crowd provided scale. The reflections provided movement. Every frame recorded a different version of the same car.
