Ford's new AI assistant can explain features, read selected vehicle health information and help owners find answers without digging through the manual.
THE ASSISTANT IS ARRIVING IN OWNER APPS NOW.
Ford says its new AI assistant is rolling out in waves through the Ford and Lincoln apps. The company expects the feature to reach as many as eight million eligible retail customers. Ford lists connected 2021 and newer vehicles with an activated modem among the eligible group, including popular models such as the F-150, Bronco, Explorer, Mustang, Maverick, Ranger, Super Duty and their Lincoln counterparts. Owners will know the feature is available when a blue oval and spark icon appears near the top of the vehicle home screen.
IT STARTS WITH THE VEHICLE ALREADY IN YOUR ACCOUNT.
Because the app is linked to a specific vehicle, owners should not need to repeat the model year, trim or equipment every time they ask a question. Ford says the assistant can explain features such as BlueCruise or tow haul mode, help estimate whether an item will fit in the cargo area and accept an uploaded image when a visual question needs context. That vehicle specific foundation is what separates the feature from a general search tool.
LIVE VEHICLE INFORMATION MAKES IT MORE USEFUL.
Ford also connects the assistant to selected vehicle information available through the app. An owner may be able to ask about tire pressure, oil life, fuel or battery charge, service timing or a warning light. The feature can provide guidance and point the owner toward the right information, but it should not replace the owner's manual, roadside assistance or professional diagnosis when a safety issue or mechanical problem needs immediate attention.
FORD'S ASSISTANT AND GEMINI HAVE DIFFERENT JOBS.
Vehicles equipped with the Ford and Lincoln Digital Experience are also gaining Google Gemini as an optional alternative to Google Assistant. Ford describes Gemini as the in-vehicle tool for tasks such as navigation, messages, cabin temperature and entertainment. The Ford and Lincoln AI assistant is focused on the owner's specific vehicle and currently begins in the phone app. Ford plans to bring its own assistant into select vehicle dashboards beginning in 2027.
THE ROLLOUT WILL IMPROVE THROUGH OWNER FEEDBACK.
Ford is releasing the feature gradually so it can collect feedback and improve answer quality before scaling further. That means two owners with similar vehicles may not receive access on the same day. The bigger test will come after the novelty wears off: whether the assistant consistently saves time, explains complicated features clearly and sends owners toward human help when software alone is not enough.
