Certain 2023 through 2027 trucks may have an improperly secured fuel tank. Here is what owners need to check and what Ford will repair for free.
THE RECALL COVERS CERTAIN 2023 THROUGH 2027 F-150S.
NHTSA campaign 26V578000 lists 223,472 Ford F-150 trucks as potentially affected. Ford identifies the campaign as recall 26S69. The model year range is broad, but not every F-150 built during those years is included. Owners should use the official VIN lookup instead of relying only on the year, trim or engine.
THE FRONT FUEL TANK STRAP MAY NOT BE SECURED CORRECTLY.
The campaign concerns the mounting of the fuel tank. On an affected truck, a strap may not be properly secured to the frame. That can allow the tank to move, leak fuel or separate from the vehicle while it is being driven.
THE POSSIBLE CONSEQUENCES ARE SERIOUS.
A fuel leak can cause the engine to stall and can increase the risk of a fire. If the tank detaches, it can become a hazard for surrounding traffic and increase the chance of a crash. NHTSA does not classify this campaign as a do not drive or park outside order, but owners should still schedule the inspection promptly once their VIN is confirmed.
THE DEALER REPAIR IS FREE.
Ford dealers will inspect the fuel tank straps and replace them when necessary at no charge. Owner letters began mailing in September, but drivers do not need to wait for a letter. Recall status can be checked with the truck's 17 character VIN through NHTSA, Ford's recall page or an authorized Ford dealer.
CHECK THE VIN BEFORE MAKING ASSUMPTIONS.
A 2023 through 2027 F-150 is not automatically part of the campaign. Enter the VIN in the official recall lookup and reference Ford campaign 26S69 or NHTSA campaign 26V578000 when contacting a dealer. If the truck is included, keep the service documentation after the inspection or repair is completed.
This is an independent safety report based on the NHTSA campaign record and the corresponding Transport Canada notice. Recall populations and repair availability can change as campaigns are updated. Owners should confirm their individual truck by VIN through NHTSA, Ford or an authorized dealer.
